In some other phones, one can give permission to install applications from other sources. However, you are advised not to allow it. The app store is advised as its applications are always scanned and are tested for safety reasons before they are uploaded to the servers for download. Whenever there are updates of the application, they are scanned for viruses and malware and are easy to update.
Whenever giving applications permission to your phone, always be careful and limit them. Most apps would need permission to access your storage, phone dialer, GPS, camera and contacts. Before giving applications permission to your phone, always ensure that you can trust the app or the source. Some apps could use the access to acquire personal information which they may sell to advertising sites in order for them to make money. For example, a gaming app would not require access to your messages. Whenever an app is suspicious about the permissions it requires, you can always download a similar app without the awkward permission requests.
It is wise to always have an antivirus or any other security app that scans for malicious apps and files. Firewall apps come in helpful in controlling which type of information an app can send or receive without informing you.
With controlled activity and careful choosing and installing apps, chances of getting cyber-attacks are minimalized.
