Computers face many risks starting from viruses, bugs, hacking and many more. Safe computing has to be practiced in order to avoid such risks that could damage your computer and or personal information.

First, to keep your data for your organization safe,  you must have an updated antivirus, firewall programs, always ensure data is backed up and always avoid spam sites; use safe connections .Before inserting other peripheral devices like, USB and other external devices into the computer, ensure that your computer is updated with security software to scan them so that your computer will not be invested with viruses or even malware.

Whenever opening any file which you downloaded or received, always ensure that the sender can be trusted and also scan the files for viruses or suspicious activity. Failure could lead to getting hacked and losing sensitive information such as passwords and account numbers to hackers or installing a software with virus or malware that would crash your system.

Always read the terms and conditions of any app before downloading and installing it. In cases of websites that are new, do not give it access to your phone. Before giving permission to an app, such as storage, SMS and managing calls, ensure that the app is safe and can be trusted.

Ensure the security of your accounts by using strong passwords. A strong password composes of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters and also symbols. Using the same password for more than one site is strongly advised against. Store your passwords in a password manager app which is considered safe rather than storing them in your email. Password manager encrypts and backs up password ensuring it is safe and can be easily restored even if you lose your phone.

Always back up your data. Keep data always backed up either using or external storage device or in the cloud which is more preferred and safer. Cloud stores huge amount of data and can be accessed any time anywhere.
